Ravelry.com is a beta fiber community. Right now it's knitters and crocheters, only, but I'm hoping it'll expand into other fiber arts.

It's REALLY awesome. I wish I could send all my fiber artists here a invite, but you have to join a waiting list to get an invite from the site. I signed up about a week ago. They send out about 1000 invites a day and currently there are about 7000 people on the invite list.

What can you do on ravelry:
List projects
Stash inventory
List queue (projects waiting to be started)
Favorite
Friends (I have NONE!)
Groups
Needles/hooks inventory
Messages
Blogs
Contributions (I think this is articles)
Purchases

Eventually you can sell/trade your stash on Ravelry, but not yet. I don't know what else they have up their sleeve. It's just like DA, but for fiber artists. Not that I'm dissing DA, they're great for printable art and even showing off stuff, but Ravelry is clearly for fiber artists.

Even my list of things you can do is pathetic in comparison to actually seeing for yourself what you can do. I'm really excited about getting my stash online so I can see what I have without having to dig forever through plastic tubs.

It also has this really cool RSS feed for your projects. You can see an example of it here: [link] That middle column is the project feed from Ravelry. That's what got me excited, then I got on the site and was just blown away. They did a great job.

I"m a new knitter and, well, actually I'm taking a college course on knitting. One of the girls who've been knitting for a while says she was on this list for 6 months and just got approved two weeks ago.

She does nothing but rant and rave about that and etsy.com. She's a yarn spinner and dyer under the name ColorfulSheep there. Her yarns are BEAUTIFUL!

If you're in the market for yarns I would def. suggest her.

I have been debating getting on that waiting list for ages.... my only hesitation is that I know I'll become completely addicted! I might join the waiting list in the next few weeks, so that I'll hopefully get an invite in the summer when I'm done with school!

It does seem kind of silly when you think about it. I mean, it's not like you have a final product that you can wear when you're finished. You've then got to pawn it off on someone else.

I think I need an Alpaca.

It only took them a week to add me. Apparently they're getting a tad faster. ;)

I added her to my friendlist.

It only took me a week to get approved. They either have a shorter waiting list or they're approving larger chunks of people. :)
